ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih has mastered new casting technology in Converter Shop

Kryvyi Rih, July 19, 2013. ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih has mastered new casting technology at CCM in Converter Shop. Submerged nozzle tests were carried in continuous casting department. In July 2013 first successful casting of structural Steel 43 was carried out with submerged nozzle resulted to 136.8 tonnes of good products. During hot tests were produced 3 different value added steel grades: structural, high-carbon and steel for welding electrodes.

Submerged nozzle technology for CCM allows production of more quality continuous casting billets. Tests of sample billets are carried now in the laboratory of the plant. Test rolling of manufactured products will be held after that.

Mastering submerged nozzle for Continuous Casting Machine we fulfill one of tasks given: manufacture of high value added products and marketing development, giving the plant opportunity to sales volume increase”.

Construction and start of the first Continuous Casting Machine at ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih was one of the key investment projects according to Sales and Purchase Agreement of the plant. Construction of Continuous Casting Department at the plant was completed in 2011. Continuous Casting Department consists of LMF type of ladle furnace and 6-strand CCM with capacity of 1.2 m t/y of billets from carbon, structural and low-alloyed steel grades. Investments in construction of CCM amounted to $120 m.
